It's
a fascinating blend of autobiography and fiction with a sci-fi twist: in a
seaside Australian town struggling with alien tentacle-creature immigration, a
trio of aimless teenagers skip school to go surfing, chase rumors of a dead
body, and avoid dealing with their own fears.
Here's
what Craig Thompson, author of Blankets, Carnet de Voyage, and
Habibi, had to say about BLUE:
"This book rekindles my earliest enthusiasm for the comics medium. Pat Grant is
the Australian Mark Twain, trading Huck's raft for a waxed-up surfboard and an
inked-up sable brush. Vast themes of racism and immigration unravel in sprawling
murals and a single day in the life of some reckless teens in this sea-polished,
perfect nugget of a book."
Still
not convinced? Check out Pat's great SHAMELESS
PUBLICITY DOCUMENT, and the free

Ronald Searle CBE, British cartoonist and illustrator, passed away at his French home at the age of 91 on the 30th December 2010— He was one of Britain's great cartoonists with a totally unique and instantly recognisable style that was years ahead of its time and was the forerunner and inspiration for cartoonists such as Gerald Scarfe and Ralph Steadman. Though best remembered by the wider public for his St Trinian’s schoolgirls, his talents as an artist and illustrator went far beyond that. He did a huge body of prestigious advertising work and his familiar drawings appeared everywhere in counless publications around the world including Punch, Life, Look, Realities and Le Canard enchaine.

Left, is his cover illustration for a compilation of some of his amazingly widely varied work during the 1960s in a book published by Penguin entitled "Searle in the Sixties".
Ronald Searle was awarded a CBE in 2004, but he was even more prominent and respected in France where he lived and worked for most of his life. He drew a weekly political cartoon for the French newspaper Le Monde and was awarded the Légion d’Honneur, the highest decoration in France. His second wife who he was devoted to, died after a long battle with cancer just a few months before his own death.
